Effect of Ginger Juice on the Interfacial Surface Properties of Oil Treated Hanji 생강즙이 유지(油紙)의 표면특성에 미치는 영향

Abstract

In painting cultural heritage, the draft is presented as part of the creation designing process, which is handed down in various forms of painting. There exist various forms of abridged copy paintings based on original and oil treated Hanji. In the case of oil treated Hanji, which functions in translucency, it is possible to effectively imitate existing original works. Since the chemical property of oil is easy to oxidize, the original images are often not properly recognized. In this process, the preserved draft is a by-product, which later on is recognized as valuable.

This study focused on analyzing the effect of ginger juice on oil treated Hanji. Firstly, the Hanji was treated with fresh sesame and perilla, and then with roasted sesame and perilla oil. The ginger juice was spread on the oil treated Hanji, followed by evaluation of the physical, surface, and preservative properties To present the effect of ginger juice on oil treated Hanji, the scientific data was based on the surface properties of oil treated Hanji before and after the application of ginger juice.
