Feasibility Study of Lime Mud Utilization for Papermaking 크라프트공정의 부산물인 라임머드의 효과적 이용에 관한 연구

Abstract

In kraft pulping process, sodium hydroxide is recovered by causticizing process and lime mud comes out as solid byproducts to go to lime kiln. To keep the quality of the pulping chemicals, a fraction of lime mud should be removed before going to lime kiln as industrial waste, and replaced with fresh calcium carbonate from outside. By applying physical modifying process to the lime mud, we tried to improve its color to be used as papermaking raw materials. Combination of thermal treatment at 550℃ and pulverization of the lime mud improved brightness more than 15 points from its original state. Hybrid calcium carbonate forming process further improved its brightness and paper handsheet physical properties.
